Your close to a town called linda which aint very um good.Your close to also a couple other towns marysville and yuba city. Beale is a quiet and small. Just on the other side of beale there is wheatland which is a small country town. And if you go tid bit more south there is Roseville and the roseville mall. PLus sacramento! Traffic is aweful but you get used to it. Just becareful in the "Main" linda area. You can find very nice houses just outside of linda. Good luck!

Lisa M says: Small medical clinic small exchange and commissary. We lived in Yuba City which is one of the nicer closer areas although it is still a 15-20 minute drive Worked in Grass Valley which is the complete opposite way out of the back gate. You are 45-1 hour drive from Sacramento and you are close to San Fran. and Tahoe as well.

I just wanted to say that we just moved to Beale AFB a month ago and took a taxi from Sacramento Airport to the base and it cost about $120 after a military discount of 15%. That was using the taxi service offered at the airport. Not sure if other companies charge less or not, but the airport service runs about $120

General:
http://www.beale.af.mil/

It is a very relaxed base, and very spread out it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s great for walking (if it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s not too hot) and running without end, but should you actually want to go shopping in the small mainbase area (bx,commissary,etc..) then you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll need a car. The base is located in a very rural area if you are a big city person this is a definite change. If you are outdoorsy you just might be in heaven.

Order your ?¢‚Ǩ?ìWelcome to Beale?¢‚Ǩ¬ù CD which has a wealth of information about the mission, housing, employment and more. The CD also has links to relocation related Web sites, instructions for receiving your personal property and pictures to help you visualize your new home.

+San Francisco is about 2-3 hours away +1.5 hours you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll find one of the most beautiful sites in the world at Lake Tahoe +in an easy 4 hours you enter THE most beautiful site in the world at Yosemite National Park +Beale AFB is about an hour north of Sacramento +There is also Travis AFB in Vacaville +about 1.5 hrs away, the BX there is alot bigger and nicer.

Beale is a large base in terms of land and has five gates providing access on all sides of the base. Although many of the ?¢‚Ǩ?ìback gates?¢‚Ǩ¬ù save time, they may prove confusing to the newcomer. The Schneider (main) and Vassar Lake (near housing) Gates are open 24-hours-a-day. The Wheatland and Grass Valley Gates are open daily, 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. The Doolittle Gate is open daily, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call the 9th Security Forces Squadron at (530) 634-2131.

The weather is fairly moderate. The summers are hot hot hot, but very dry. That means it is actually not bad in the shade and the hottest part of the day is about 5PM. Summer mornings can be anywhere from 55 to 65 degrees and only 80 by noon on a predicted 105 degree day. You can almost guarantee a clear and sunny day between May and November.

Winters are cool with lows sometimes touching the freezing mark, but never in conjunction with precipitation. Ground fog can be bothersome at times.

I have listed things to do (in General under ?¢‚Ǩ?ìFor Kids?¢‚Ǩ¬ù)

Transportation:
A taxi from the Sacramento Airport will cost you approximately $80 Bus service: $15
